Ritha Sahib: Gurudwara Reetha Sahib is only 60 Kms. by flying distance in the north of Nanakmatta Sahib, but the distance by motorable road is 209 Kms. It is 166 Kms. from Tanakpur, the last railway station on Bareilly - Tanakpur section. Here Guru Nanak Dev Ji made the normally bitter fruit of a soap nut (Reetha or Ritha in Hindi / Gurumukhi ) tree sweet for Bhai Mardana to feed on. |

Nanakpuri Tanda: Gurudwara Nanakpuri Sahib is also associated with the Guru Nanak Dev ji. It is nearly 50 Kms from Nanakmatta Sahib. He came here at the request of Bhai Hara Singh. During those days, the Rohilla Pathans of this area were involved in child trafficking. He ended this evil at that place.
In the guise of a child, he sat on a pile of stones. A Rohilla Pathan caught him and sold him to a merchant for two horses. The merchant set him on the job of scaring away parrots from his garden. But, when the child stepped into the garden, it dried up.
The Pathan caught the child again and sold him to a sheep merchant. But, whenever the child touched a sheep with his stick, it would die, only to revive the next time it was touched. The Pathan took the child away and for the third time, sold him to another Pathan who set him to the task of grinding wheat with a hand grinder (chakki). But to his surprise, even after grinding a large quantity of wheat, the amount of flour (atta) that came out was very little. The wives of the Pathan were very upset at this and were angry at the Pathan. The child-selling Pathan sold the child yet again for the fourth time to a Khwaja. The Khwaja set him the task of bringing up water from his well and instructed him not to give water to anybody without his permission. However, all the water in the well and nearby rivers and rivulets dried up.
At this, the Pathans gathered in the mosque and offered prayers to Allah. Guru Ji then told them that Allah would answer their prayers only if they stopped the practice of child trafficking. On their promising to do so, the water that had dried up began to flow again. The Pathans of Rohelkhand became Guruji's disciples. |
Nankana Sahib Kashipur: This place is nearly 100 Kms from Nanakmatta Sahib. Gurudwara Sri Nankana Sahib is located in the city of Kashipur, district Udham Singh Nagar, in Mohalla Pakka Kot, near Nagrath Mandir and Uday Raj College. It is about one km away from the bus stand and the railway Station of Kashipur and located on the Ramnagar - Manpur bypass road.
Gurudwara Sri Nankana Sahib is also associated with Guru Nanak Dev ji who came here after having visited Nanak Mata and Nanak Puri. At that time, the Dhela river used to cause havoc in the city by flooding each year.
When Guru ji reached this place, the local people were on the verge of leaving this place for safer grounds. Guru ji told them to be patient and advised them to remain there only.
Thereafter, on the riverside, he started singing kirtan. As the kirtan was in progress, the river rose. Guru Ji performed the ardas and the river, after touching Guru ji's feet, receded, moved to a distance away from the town.
Since then, the river has never flooded the city again. Earlier the name of the river was Swaran river and that when Guru ji threw a clod (Dhela) into the river the name of the river was changed to Dhela river.
A Sarai with 30 rooms has been built over the Langar Hall for the convenience of visitors. |
